The women behind

We are Janni and Janet. We are the leaseholders and operators of Thorupstrand Fiskehus together. We started as good friends, then became colleagues, and now jointly run the fish house. We love great food and guests; although it’s a bit cliché, it truly is what drives us. We are uncompromising about quality and sustainably caught fish. We are so proud of our place and the wild ingredients we work with every day.

A bit more about us

Janni Olesen

THE ONE LESSEE

She smiles and talks a lot, considering she’s a true North Jutlander. Recognizable by her distinctive nose and brisk pace.
Very enthusiastic about sustainably caught fish and the fight for higher food quality in Denmark!
Usually found behind the counter. (Except during the summer of 2024, when she’s on maternity leave)

Janet Anisimow

THE OTHER LESSEE

The woman who runs the kitchen. Quarter Russian. Mental coach at FIF Handball. Equally effective and laughing. Deep-fried skills from another world. Local patriot beyond the usual. Educated as a pedagogue, lives in Fjerritslev, and a thoroughly optimistic person.

Anni Pedersen

CONCERT ORGANIZER, KITCHEN HERO, AND FISH CUTTER

Anni encompasses many talents, evident in her wide-ranging title. She’s an organizational genius, effortlessly orchestrating fantastic concerts while simultaneously filleting loads of fish with one hand and preparing fish & chips with the other. In other words:

An impressive woman!

Lene Glerup

THE ONE YOU’RE LUCKY TO OFTEN MEET

You most often meet Lene behind the counter in the shop. Her spirits are high, and her warmth is palpable! Lene ensures that you always leave the Fish House with good guidance and a smile. She lives in Thorupstrand with her sweet husband, Tom, aka the “involuntary handyman”. We’re fortunate to have them both, more or less voluntarily, on the team.

The cutters and the fishermen

Thorupstrand is the largest place in Northern Europe where fishing boats are pulled directly onto the beach. All facilities are collectively managed through the local fishing association, and the fishermen have a guild through which they also manage their shared fishing quotas. The boats are specially designed to withstand the surf and navigate in and out on the open beach. Read more at: www.thorupstrandfisk.dk
If you want to know more about how the boats are built, you can visit Han Herred Havbåde in Slettestrand, approximately 20 km from Thorupstrand. For further information, visit www.havbaade.dk
